Romana Boiger
I am a Tenure-Track Scientist at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland, working at the intersection of applied mathematics, data science, and interdisciplinary research, with 10 years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, and computer vision.
My background is in numerical mathematics, inverse problems, and optimization. Today, I develop and apply computational methods — including machine learning, scientific computing, surrogate modelling, and uncertainty quantification — to complex scientific problems.
My research spans applications in geoscience and nuclear waste management, sustainable materials, and large-scale scientific facilities. Across these different domains, my goal is to use mathematical and data-driven methods to make complex simulations and analyses faster, more informative, and applicable to problems that would otherwise be computationally difficult to address.
